April Board Meeting Highlights

Aledo Middle School journalism students and their teacher Kristie Vandergriff presented the “Gallery of Excellence” award the team received for the publication of the 2016-2017 AMS yearbook.

The Excellence award is given by Walsworth Yearbooks. The AMS book will be included in the company’s online gallery, which features superior examples of coverage, design, photography and copy. President Don Walsworth said, “The induction of your yearbook in the Gallery of Excellence honors your staff’s exceptional work and dedication to excellence.”

Ms. Vandergriff said the staff consists of 56 students who are all eighth-graders, and that the students receive high-school credit for the class.

AMS Principal Mandy Musselwhite said, “I am incredibly proud of these students and the hard work they have poured into the yearbook. It is amazing to see the transition from seventh-graders signing up for an introductory Journalism course to dynamic leaders who are learning such valuable life skills!”

Pictured on the webpage are Principal Musselwhite, Sophia Stadler, Olivia Caggiano, Lainey Streetman, Ms. Vandergriff, Jackie Pillow, Mallory Trammell, Emelia Gamez. All of these students are yearbook editors, along with Ashlyn Vozeh and Caroline Erb, who were unable to attend the board meeting.

Brenna Young and Robert Myers also received accolades at the meeting for their achievements at the 2017 UIL State Policy Debate Competition. They are shown here with AISD Trustee Bobby Rigues and Debate Coach Robin Bateman.
