Bearcat Senior Named National Merit Semifinalist
Aledo High School senior Tanner Legvold has been honored as one of the nationís top students.

Legvold was announced this week as a National Merit Semifinalist. He was among approximately 16,000 semifinalists named in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Legvold is currently considering Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas. He is a four-year member of the Bearcat Regiment band and is the saxophone section leader. He also participates in the Jazz Band, serves as President of the Robotics Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.

To earn the Semifinalist honor, students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the studentís earlier performance on the qualifying test. From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level, and in February they will be notified of this designation.
