Parenting University: Monday, Oct. 23 - Bullying 101 For Parents
Parenting University is presenting "Bullying 101 For Parents" on Monday, Oct 23 at 9 a.m. in the Walsh Training Room at the AISD†administration building. October is National Bullying Prevention Month. This session of Aledo ISD's†Parenting University will cover new laws about bullying, how to recognize and report bullying and supporting both vicitms and bullies. The session will be presented by Scott Kessel, the AISD's Director of Student Service & Safety.

Final Bond Election Town Hall Meeting Tuesday
Aledo ISD will host the final Town Hall meeting Tuesday at McAnally Intermediate School. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. and the Aledo ISD†community is invited to attend. Superintendent Dr. Derek Citty will be presenting Bond Election information and answering questions. #AledoBond

Aledo Tennis Playoff Tuesday vs. Denton
The Aledo Bearcat tennis team will open the Class 5A playoffs on Tuesday. The Bearcats face Denton at 4:30 p.m. at Northwest High School. Aledo is coming off winning its 12th consecutive district title. Follow the Aledo tennis team on Twitter @RacquetCats.

Bearcats Earn Commended Scholar Recognition
Three Aledo High School students have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Program with Commended Recognition.

Seniors Zachary Leeper, Mary Gamez and Rylan Akers (pictured left to right) earned Commended Scholar recognition.

About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

McAnally Student Council Selling Pink Out T-shirts
The McAnally†Intermediate School Student Council is selling Pink Out T-shirts this week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. All proceeds will be donated to the Joan Katz Breast Cancer Center. The Bearcats Pink Out Football Game is Friday, Oct. 20 vs. Eaton at 7 p.m. T-shirts are $10.

Aledo ISD Flu Shot Clinics Begin Tuesday
Aledo ISD campuses will host flu shot clinics starting Oct. 10. Please check the schedule below for the campus dates and times.†Students must have completed forms in order to be able to receive their flu shots on the day of the clinic at their campus. Parents may be present, but not required. Teachers and parents may also receive their flu shots with completed forms. (Insurance will be billed for students and adults). Without insurance, the cost is free for students 18 years and younger and $20 for adults.

Aledo High School Homecoming 2017

This year's Aledo High School Senior Homecoming Queen was crowned last Friday at Aledo's Homecoming game at Bearcat Stadium.

Magdalene Mallory (pictured middle) earned this year's honor and was crowned during halftime. The remaining court included Callyn Bennett (left) and Gracie King (right).

The Bearcats concluded homecoming week with a 56-7 victory against Chisholm Trail.

Aledo HS Theatre Hosts Shakespeare in Hollywood

The Aledo High School Theatre Department is presenting a comical play - Shakespeare in Hollywood. Show dates are Thursday, Oct. 5 and Saturday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. in the Aledo High School auditorium.

Doors open 30 minutes before the show. Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens and $12 for adults. Concessions will be available before the show. Email† to reserve.
AISD Superintendent Hosts Community Brown Bag Lunches
Aledo ISD Superintendent Dr. Derek Citty invites campus parents and community members to join him for a series of brown bag lunches at the elementary campuses. The first lunch was held Tuesday at Vandagriff Elementary. They begin at 12 p.m. and include a presentation of the Nov. 7 Bond Election in Aledo ISD. Early voting begins Oct. 23.

Bearcat Senior Named National Merit Semifinalist
Aledo High School senior Tanner Legvold has been honored as one of the nationís top students.

Legvold was announced this week as a National Merit Semifinalist. He was among approximately 16,000 semifinalists named in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million that will be offered next spring.

Legvold is currently considering Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas. He is a four-year member of the Bearcat Regiment band and is the saxophone section leader. He also participates in the Jazz Band, serves as President of the Robotics Club and is a member of the National Honor Society.

To earn the Semifinalist honor, students must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay and earn SAT scores that confirm the studentís earlier performance on the qualifying test. From the approximately 16,000 Semifinalists, about 15,000 are expected to advance to the Finalist level, and in February they will be notified of this designation.
Aledo ISD Supporting School District Recovery Process

Aledo ISD is gearing up to help those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Aledo is joining with several districts across the state to provide aid for West Orange-Cove Consolidated ISD in Southeast Texas.†

AISD will help in the relief with a donation drive as West Orange-Cove Consolidated begins the cleanup and recovery process from the flooding and destruction. Click here to read the list of requested donation items.

Aledo School Board Calls Nov. 7 Bond Election
The Aledo ISD Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday, Aug. 21 to call a bond election for Nov. 7, 2017. The vote was held during the Boardís regular meeting and includes a $72.9 million bond which will be presented to voters on two propositions. Click here to read more about the 2017 Bond Election.

Bond Steering Committee 2017
The Bond Steering Committee 2017 held three meetings starting in late June to review Aledo ISD facility planning along with demographic and financial reports. The committee will provide a presentation and recommendation to the Board of Trustees during a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, Aug. 3. Meeting documents are provided below.

Walsh Elementary Ribbon Cutting/Dedication Aug. 25
The Aledo Independent School District will celebrate the opening of a new campus on Friday, Aug. 25, 2017.†Mary D. and F. Howard Walsh Elementary School will officially open its doors at 10 a.m. with a community ribbon cutting and campus dedication. The school is located at 14113 Walsh Avenue in the new Walsh Ranch development. Members of the community are invited to attend. Click here to read more about Walsh.
