E-cigs and Vaping Seminar for Parents and Students at AMS

Photo: E-cigE-cigarettes and “vaping” are becoming increasingly popular among teens. As this dangerous trend grows, it is imperative to stay current on how these devices are impacting our students. Marcene Weatherall will be at Aledo Middle School to provide valuable information for both parents and students. This presentation at Aledo Middle School is in the Bearcat Den on April 27 at 7 p.m.  Students and parents are highly encouraged to attend.

Aledo ISD Board of Trustees and General Election

Photo of The Aledo ISD Administration building is a host site for the May 6 Trustee election. Early voting is going on now, and ends Tuesday, May 2. Voting days are Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except for April 25 and 27. Hours are extended those days from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
 
Election Day is Saturday, May 6. The Aledo ISD Administration building will be open for voting from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. that day. Here is complete information about additional voting sites, etc.

Aledo ISD Police Department Takes Back Unwanted Prescription Drugs

Photo: Drug disposal On Saturday, April 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Aledo ISD Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public its 13th opportunity in seven years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your pills for disposal to Vandagriff Elementary School at 408 FM 1187 S in Aledo. (The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps; only pills or patches.) The service is free and anonymous; no questions asked. Read more.

photo of Barbara RussellThe 2017 Marva Collins Teaching Excellence Awards honored some of Aledo ISD’s shining stars in a night of pomp and circumstance for district faculty, staff, teachers and young musicians. Aledo Learning Center teacher Barbara Russell received the Teacher of the Year Award, presented by the Reilly Family Foundation. In the years since the awards ceremony has been held, this foundation has donated more than $200,000 to Aledo ISD teachers.

Coder Elementary “Mathletes” Compete in Pentathlon

For the first time ever, Coder students from kindergarten and first grade participated in a Math Pentathlon. This is a national math competition where students learn five higher-level, critical-thinking games. Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Roe coached students after school every Monday until their competition in late March. More than 300 competed in the Math Pentathlon. All 17 of Coder’s mathletes earned recognition for winning. Congratulations!

TASCO Honors Ladycat Soccer

Caoch Bryan JohnsonNot only was Ladycats Head Soccer Coach Bryan Johnson selected as the 5A Region 1 Coach of the Year by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches; AHS also had four Ladycats chosen as 1st Team All State for Region 1. This the first time to sweep all four positions as 1st Team All State. There are only 16 girls chosen for this honor for all four regions. Congratulations to seniors Peyton Laughley, Forward, and Cameron Huddleston, Midfield; and juniors Kristen Burns, Defender, and Makenzie Covington, Keeper.

ALC Students See College Life Firsthand

ALC visits WC photoAledo Learning Center students visited Weatherford College recently for an educational presentation on the admissions process, and information on various degrees and certification. Students toured the Student Services building, which includes the financial aid office, student support services, and workforce and continuing-education offices. Completing the tour was lunch in the Coyote Café where students were able to experience what college life feels like firsthand. Everyone enjoyed the visit and students expressed interest in attending the college. This is the second year for Weatherford College to host Aledo Learning Center students for campus tours. Hyperlink Shows Progress Updates for Walsh Elementary
Watch the phases of construction of Aledo ISD’s fifth elementary campus at this hyperlink. A time-lapse camera at the site is on loan to the district. It takes a high-level photo every eight minutes and adds it to the collection. Viewers can access specific dates and times to see activity. Eventually, once the school is completed, a comprehensive timeline will be available of the entire construction process to view in just a matter of a few minutes. Stay tuned!

"Check Acceptance Policy"
Aledo ISD has established the following policy for accepting checks and collecting bad checks: For a check to be an acceptable form of payment, it must include your current, full and accurate name, and address and telephone number. When paying by check, you authorize the recovery of unpaid checks and the recovery of the state-allowed fee by means of electronic re-presentment.
